Get Your Knoxville Law Firm Recommended by ChatGPT Google AI and Perplexity

The short version.

Reputation Angel is a Knoxville AI search visibility consultancy, based at 110 West Summit Hill Drive in the Old City. We help Knoxville law firms get found, described accurately, and recommended when potential clients ask ChatGPT, Google AI, and Perplexity for a lawyer. The work starts with a free baseline audit, then a one-time Foundation project ($2,500–$4,500), with optional ongoing management from $1,200/month. Nobody can guarantee an AI assistant will recommend your firm. We fix the problems that keep it from doing so, and we measure the result.

Your next client is asking AI for a lawyer.

People in Knoxville increasingly type their legal problem into an AI assistant instead of a search box. They ask things like:

  • “Best DUI attorney in Knoxville”
  • “Best criminal defense attorney in Knoxville”
  • “Who should I call after a car accident in Knox County?”

The assistant answers with a few names. It builds that answer from sources it can read and trust: your website, your structured data, legal directories, and reviews. If your site is hard for it to read, or sends it conflicting facts, it recommends someone else, or it recommends you based on whatever a directory says.

We audited five Knoxville law-firm websites. Here’s what we found.

In August and September 2026 we ran technical audits on the public websites of five Knoxville-area law firms, covering personal injury, criminal defense, and general practice. We’re not naming them. The patterns matter more than the names:

  • None of the five had an llm.txt file. This is a plain-language file that tells AI systems who you are, what you do, and how to describe you accurately.
  • Three of five had FAQ sections that AI couldn’t read as questions and answers. The FAQs were visible on the page but had no matching structured data, so AI systems had to guess at them.
  • Two of five had no FAQ content at all, even though “what should I do after…” questions are exactly what clients ask AI.
  • Four of five had structured data that sent wrong or conflicting information. Examples: two code blocks listing different office addresses, one with a placeholder ZIP code of “00000”; a firm listed as open 24 hours a day; a firm described to search engines as a “Product”; FAQ answers in the code that didn’t appear anywhere on the page.
  • One of five blocked AI crawlers entirely, including OpenAI’s and Anthropic’s, through a default security setting on its hosting network. Most firms with this setting don’t know it’s on.
  • One firm we traced in ChatGPT did appear for a practice-area search, but only through legal directories (Avvo, Martindale, Justia, and Lawyers.com), not through its own website. The firm had no control over how it was described.

None of these firms had a bad website. They had websites built for Google’s traditional search results, and AI assistants read sites differently.

What we fix and how we fix it.

Foundation: one-time, $2,500–$4,500 depending on site size

  • Structured data (JSON-LD) that states your firm, attorneys, practice areas, offices, and hours correctly, once, with no conflicts
  • FAQ markup that matches the questions and answers actually on your pages
  • An llm.txt file describing your firm in plain, accurate language
  • A robots.txt review, so AI search crawlers can reach your site
  • A check of how directories and profiles describe you across the web
  • A re-audit 30 days later across ChatGPT, Google AI, and Perplexity, showing what changed

Presence: ongoing, from $1,200/month

  • Quarterly re-audits across all three platforms
  • AI crawler monitoring
  • Schema updates as your firm, attorneys, and practice areas change
  • Citation and directory maintenance
  • A written quarterly visibility report

We do the technical work ourselves and coordinate with your existing web developer or marketing agency, so nothing on your site breaks.

How we measure.

We use a four-step process we call the Verification Loop:

  1. Baseline. Before we change anything, we run a set of real client-style questions through ChatGPT, Google AI, and Perplexity and record exactly what each one says about your firm.
  2. Inject. We implement the fixes.
  3. Re-audit. We run the same questions again and compare.
  4. Remediate. We fix whatever the re-audit shows is still wrong.

We track three levels: whether your firm is mentioned, whether your own website is cited as a source, and whether the assistant recommends you. They’re different, and we report all three.

Built for Tennessee attorney advertising rules.

Anything a law firm publishes about its services, including FAQ answers written for AI, is a communication under the Tennessee Rules of Professional Conduct. RPC 7.1 prohibits false or misleading communications about a lawyer’s services and requires that advertising identify at least one responsible lawyer or firm. RPC 7.4 restricts when a lawyer may claim to be a “specialist.” We write to that standard: no “best,” no outcome promises, no specialist claims without certification. Your firm reviews and approves every word before it’s published.

This is general information, not legal advice. The full rules are available from the Tennessee Board of Professional Responsibility at tbpr.org.

FAQs

How do law firms get recommended by ChatGPT?

ChatGPT builds its answers from sources it can read and trust, including your website, your structured data, legal directories, and reviews. Firms get recommended when those sources describe them clearly and consistently. We fix the technical problems that keep AI systems from reading your site correctly.

Can you guarantee ChatGPT will recommend my firm?

No. Nobody can guarantee what an AI assistant will say. We fix what’s within your control and measure the results with a before-and-after audit.

How much does it cost?

The baseline audit is free. The one-time Foundation project costs $2,500 to $4,500, depending on the size of your site. Ongoing management starts at $1,200 per month and is optional.

Will this conflict with our current web developer or marketing agency?

No. We coordinate with your existing developer or agency and make changes in a way that doesn’t break your site or overwrite their work.

Do Tennessee’s attorney advertising rules apply to AI search content?

Yes. Content a firm publishes about its services is a communication under the Tennessee Rules of Professional Conduct, including RPC 7.1. We write to that standard, and your firm approves all content before it’s published. This is not legal advice.

How long does it take to see results?

AI crawlers often start reading updated pages within days. Changes in what AI assistants say usually take longer and vary by platform. We re-audit 30 days after the Foundation work so you can see exactly what changed.

Do you only work with Knoxville firms?

We’re based in Knoxville and serve clients across Tennessee, including Nashville and Memphis, as well as Asheville, North Carolina. We meet in person in East Tennessee and work remotely everywhere else.
